Understanding Domain Expiry

Every domain name has pre-defined lifecycle. Once a domain name expires, it goes through various stages before it is released back and made available to general public for registration on first come first serve basis. IndiaLinks sends four (4) renewal reminder emails to customers and two (2) renewal reminder emails to domain's registrant & administrative contact prior to the expiration date.

Below is after-expiry timeline for all gTLDs, .IN &.CO ccTLDs which IndiaLinks offers.

Days after expiration Action  
Day 1 Domain expires. Renewal Grace Period of 30 days begins. Domain name may be parked or put up for auction. Domain status will change to client-hold & all services associated with the domain name (eg. website, emails) will stop working. Domain names can be renewed by paying reactivation fee in addition to the cost of one year domain renewal, if not resold or auctioned already.  
Day 30 End of Renewal Grace Period, Beginning of Redemption Period of 30 days (if not resold or auctioned during renewal grace period). Domain names (if not resold or auctioned already) can be renewed during redemption period by paying redemption fee in addition to the cost of one year domain renewal.  
Day 60 Redemption Period Ends. Domain name is queued for deletion. At this stage, it is not possible to redeem, recover or renew the domain name.  
Day 65 Domain name is deleted from registry and made available to general public for registration on first come first serve basis.
