SpamGuard - How it works?

SpamGuard is Web based Mail filtering service which works with your existing email addresses. SpamGuard requires No Hardware or Software to work. You continue to use your existing email software to send & receive emails without changing any settings.

Every incoming mail is passed through multiple stages of filtering.

SpamGuard Filters
  • DNSBL/RBL filtering
SpamGuard checks various DNSBL/RBL Black listings for known spamming & open-relay servers. Any emails arriving from listed servers are filtered out.

  • Virus Scanning
Emails being received are scanned for trojans & viruses. Infected emails are filtered out. SpamGuard updates virus signatures at regular interval.

  • Attachment Filtering
Incoming emails are scanned for known Spam attachments.

  • Global Spam Database Lookup
SpamGuard maintains its own database of Spammers based on past spam statistics. SpamGuard filters out any such detected spam.

  • Subject Filtering
SpamGuard filters emails based on user defined subject filters.

  • Black Listing Filtering
Users can define their own black listing of email addresses and domains from which they do not wish to receive any emails. Any emails received from listed addresses/domains are filtered out.

  • White Listing Filtering
Emails received from email addresses & domains defined in User's White List are delivered to mailbox without any further filtering.

  • Content Filtering
Emails are scanned for Spam Contents using various Spam Detection Tools. Detected Spams are diverted to user's Unverified (quarantined) Mail folder.

  • Authorized Sender Filtering & Challenge-Response
Authorized Sender Filtering is the most effective spam filtering technique.

Email received from unknown senders (addresses/domains not listed in White List) are diverted to your "Unverified Mail" folder and a Challange Response (verification email) is sent to the sender. Upon verification (by you or sender) their emails are delivered to your mailbox and sender addresses are added to your white list. Any futher emails received from them will be directly delivered to your mailbox.

Since most of the Spammers uses wrong "From" addresses, their emails will always get diverted to your Unverified Mail folder protecting your mailbox from thousands of spams.

Challenge-Response is an optional service and can be set from your control panel. (Challenge-Response option may not be available with your package & may require additional payments)

Protection Level
SpamGuard allows you to set your own protection level. This defines how your incoming emails should be handled for filtering.

During initial filtering stages (1 to 7), most of the known spams are filtered out. Emails are then filtered through Stage 8 or 9 based on your selected Protection Level.
  • Medium Protection : (40-70% filtering)

After initial filtering stages (1 to 7), incoming mails are filtered through Stage 8. Mails detected as "possible spam" are diverted to user's Unverified Mail folder.
  • Highest Protection : (upto 99% filtering)

Incoming emails are filtered through Stage 9 which allows emails only from authorized senders to pass through. Emails from unknown senders are diverted to user's Unverified Mail folder thus, protecting mailbox from thousdands of spams.

We recommend "Highest Protection Level" for effective spam filtering.
